This spring, agent/trainer Brenda Benner selected Callaway's Halley's Comet for Jessica Curl, and it was a perfect fit. It's been a winning year for the Curl family; now, Rick and Ann Curl are also the proud owners of the beautiful world's champion Harlem's Proud Mary. We'll be cheering them on.

A victory wave ... Congrats to Mike Roberts on his win with Tornaado's Tidal Wave (by (SA) Tornaado) in the Lexington Junior League Horse Show's Fine Harness Mare class. Here's a peek at their victory pass.

Speaking of Independence Day ... For the last several years, we have celebrated the July 4 holiday by hosting a day at Hodge Lake. Our employees and their families, our clients, and friends join in an afternoon and evening of fun. The day starts with the arrival of the barbecue crew: a bunch of young Thoroughbred groupies hovering attentively around Stuart Morris, chef extraordinaire. The groupies swim, sun, and party while Stuart cooks. During the afternoon, employees, family, and friends arrive to eat, drink, and play volleyball, croquet, horse shoes, and soccer -- as well as to fish, swim, float, or do nothing. Just before sunset, the music strikes up and shortly thereafter, fireworks light up the night sky, while patriotic tunes pay tribute to our hard-fought right to be free. We've included several photos of our fun and relaxing day at Hodge Lake.

What's more American than fishing from the bank? This youngster pulled a fish or two from the lake.
Doing nothing was an allowable activity, too, as illustrated by several who willingly demonstrated the skill.
The most serious competition involved not high-trotting passes in front of the judges, but ... croquet.
Even the swans at Hodge Lake enjoyed the day.
Lawn chairs were available, but blankets made for nice after-lunch nap opportunities.
Pontificating. We're pretty sure that's what was going on.
Toodlin' and toddlin' -- it's a pastime that includes most everyone.
And in case folks got tired of resting, they could always return to the barbecue buffet.
Sometimes, a bit of relaxation is just the thing.
We've discovered that picnics wear out most Jack Russells. All of that begging for food, we suppose.
End of the day at Simmstown Manor, near Hodge Lake -- and what a grand day it was.

We hope you're enjoying your Saddlebreds and your Saddlebred friends, too, as we look toward the end of the '04 show season. Take care.
